One of the most profound casualties of this malignant presidency is a wholesale erosion of normalcy. America is no longer in a political tug-of-war, or an honest contest of one ideology over another. This is much bigger. This is existential. And none of it is “normal,” even though it feels like it’s becoming just that.
That’s where the heart of the battle lies. We can’t allow this flaming dumpster fire of a “president” drive our country off the cliff simply because he is so good at animating the 1/3 of our citizens that wallow in their own ignorance, fear and misdirected hatred. And the way we fight back in the face of debilitating normalcy is with outrage. Be outraged, damnit!
Donald Trump has defended FUCKING NAZIS. This, from a broken individual who has cast aspersions and insults on everyone and everything he’s ever encountered, from Gold Star families, to war heroes, to sitting presidents, to the media, minorities, allies, and everyone in between. I will repeat this, because if you can’t get, and stay, outraged by the fact that OUR PRESIDENT CALLED FUCKING NAZIS “VERY FINE PEOPLE,” then just kiss the goddamn country goodbye.
Donald Trump publicly shit on the memory of a war hero and his surviving Gold Star family simply because they were Muslim. That’s disgusting. Be outraged.
Donald Trump is an admitted, bullying, sexual predator. His words. He “moved on” married women, porn stars, playmates, hookers, “like a bitch.” And he paid them six figures to keep their mouths shut. And lied. A lot. Is it really that big a stretch to believe the 19 women who credibly accused him of sexual impropriety ranging from unwanted advances to full-blown rape? I believe the women, because Donald Trump couldn’t tell the truth if his damaged, worthless life depended on it. And that means there's a likely fucking rapist in the White House. Be outraged.
Donald Trump refuses to admit that Russia compromised the 2016 presidential election, and is doing nothing to defend our country from the same thing in 2018. This is a fucking violation of his oath of office. Be outraged.
Donald Trump debased the hallowed discourse and tradition of presidential debate by bullying, insulting, name-calling, physically stalking, and reassuring America that there was “no problem” with his penis. Be outraged.
Donald Trump paid off or bribed two physicians to lie about his weight, temperment and physical well being—then sent a group of thugs to steal documentation of his medical records. Be outraged.
He is an unrepentant white supremacist with too many examples of proof that bears this out to even begin to list. Be outraged. He can’t fucking read. Be outraged.
He doesn’t know jack shit about the policies, treaties or agreements he maligns. Be outraged.
He doesn’t know what a tariff is. Or Obamacare. Or NAFTA. Or the Paris Climate Accord. Be outraged.
He spent a year calling the TPP agreement “a rape of our country”—and now supports it because free trade lobbyists paid him to change his mind. Be outraged.
He is trying to bait both North Korea and Iran into a thermonuclear war with the same garish bullying of an asshole kid on a playground, except with millions of lives in the balance. Be outraged.
He has advanced an ethnocentric vision of America while demonizing Mexicans, Muslims, blacks, South American and Middle Eastern refugees—and tossed the gay and trans communities onto the black list as well. This is a page out of Hitler’s playbook, for fuck’s sake. Be outraged.
While we’re on Hitlerisms, Trump can’t hem his bottomless need for adulation, and has turned his one dimensional presidency into one fascist rally after another. Be outraged.
He has denigrated majority black countries (allies, at that) as “shitholes.” Be outraged.
His entire life and career, including his fictitious net worth, is a con. Be outraged.
He created a fake university to dupe thousands of Americans out of their money. Be outraged.
He lies about immigrant voting, wire-tapping, the FBI, the CIA—let’s just say it. He lies about everything, all the time. 2,000 documented lies just since he’s been president. Be outraged.
He lies about political rivals in such an extreme way, that he forwards theories that Hillary Clinton sold uranium to Iran, and Barack Obama was a secret Kenyan. Be outraged.
He coddles some of the most disgusting people America has produced: a politician who was credibly accused of pedophilia; a show host who claims the Sandy Hook massacre was fake. Be outraged.
He attacks every institution meant to check and balance the presidency—the courts, congress, the free media. This is the very definition of authoritarian fascism. Be outraged.
He wants to fuck his goddamn daughter. Be outraged.
This barely scratches the surface of what we should be outraged about—and he adds to it daily. This is a feature, not a bug. Trump is betting that he can exhaust his opponents by the sheer scale of his corruption and the volume of his indiscretions.
There are certainly ways to stop him, but complacency and normalcy are dangerously present in this formerly great country.
But none of this is normal. And your outrage is your first and best line of defense. Please use it.
